All You Ever Wanted To Know About Moose
Who knew I would be looking for information about moose? Then I was traveling to Maine and wanted to know all about them. Adult or child, this is the book to start with. Simple, basic chapters explain the strange appearance of the moose, their habits, their habitat, and their social customs. Grand, solitary creatures, members of the deer family, they are actually making a comeback now, particularly in the northern tier of states. The pictures accompanying each little chapter are breathtaking, magnificent and appealing. The text is completely lucid, easy enough for a child to read, but packed with enough interesting information to satisfy an adult's curiosity. (Well, mine, anyway). If you are headed for moose country (or just interested in animals) I recommend this one highly!

The perfect little moose book.
Compact yet complete, less than 50 pages, but packed with fabulous photos and facts. Simple enough for the kids but with enough information for adults. Great buy.

A pleasure to read
This book is very well written and fun to read. Since the birth of my son, I've been reading him a story every night before bedtime. Even though he is only 4½ months old, he seems to especially enjoy "Moose, of Course". I can only assume it is because of all the rhymes and repetitions this story contains. I feel confident that he will enjoy it for a long time since the story is also adventurous and amusing. I will definitely be buying more of Lynn Plourde's books.

Nature and Kids -- the best!
A sweet, natural story with great rhythms. Includes a lesson about understanding nature and being patient! My four-year-old loves to hear it and I love to read it. Wonderful for bedtime and anytime you need a quiet moment together.

Moose: Behavior, Ecology, Conservation
Published in Hardcover by Voyageur Press (January, 2002)
Authors: Valerius Geist and Michael H. Francis
Average review score:

Fascinating look at a fascinating creature
Since a child, moose have always amazed me. Turning to popular wildlife texts, however, I found that very few such books ever mentioned these magnificent deer. Finally a book has come along to fill this void.

Dr. Geist is a renown expert in cervid biology and conservation. His expertise regarding moose ecology in North America and Eurasia shines through every page of this book. He has the rare ability to combine personal experiences with potentially dry biology information to produce very readable prose. I truly enjoyed this text! The accompanying photos were also spectacular. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the moose.

A scientific journey of discovery
Val Geist is world renown as the dean of behavioral ecologists (ethologists) of the hooved mammals (ungulates) of the northern hemisphere. Fritz Walther, an extraordinary ungulate ethologist in his own right, once described Geist as having a mind that combines the vastness of the Russian Steppe (Geist's natal homeland), with the meticulousness of Germany (where he spent his youth) and the audacity of North America (where he has spent his adulthood). Bull's eye.

I know of no wildlife biologist with greater depth of knowledge and creative insight, or greater courage and dedication in applying his knowledge to the challenge of real world conservation.

Coming full circle, Geist has finally writen an entire book devoted to the moose, an animal whose behavior he (like I) studied extensively during his youth.

We who have had the pleasure of reading his numerous other books and scientific papers know that each leads the reader on a rare and delightful intellectual journey of discovery. His insights are always fresh and vibrant, built on an extraordinarily wide knowledge of the literature combined with in depth firsthand knowledge. This book is no exception.

To any reader seriously interested in moose or just wildlife in general, this work is an extraordinary find.

Moosey Moose (Thingy Things)
Published in Hardcover by Hyperion Press (April, 2000)
Authors: Christopher Raschka and Chris Raschka
Average review score:

Moosey Moose is brilliant
I saw this book while browsing in my favorite bookstore and immediately loved it, even though I was at least 12 years older than the readers it is written for. The drawings and story are perfect for children, but older readers will get a kick out of Moosey Moose too. I love the page wherein "Moosey Moose is mad" and also the illustration of him snubbing his short pants in favor of the longer ones. This is the best of the four Thingy Things books I've seen. It is so delightful that Moosey Moose has been a topic of conversation at my high school for a year so far.

Mad About Moosey Moose
Chris Raschka's Moosey Moose, from the Thingy Things series, is a terrific children's book. It uses very simple sounds and words in repetition to teach kids to read. In this story Moosey Moose is mad because he wants his long pants -- not his short pants! (Our nephew who wears shorts in winter and long pants in summer loves Moosey Moose!) The illustrations are wonderful. It is the first of our son's books that both mommy & daddy can recite by heart!

We Need a Moose
Published in Hardcover by Chariot Victor Pub (September, 1996)
Authors: Lynne Fairbridge and Georgia Graham
Average review score:

Perfect kid's book.
I absolutely LOVE this book. It's an adorable sing songy rhyming story written with childlike wild imagination and great pictures. It's a story they will never tire of hearing. It's perfect for a child expecting a new baby sibling but we are not and it's still one of our favorite books to read! Great baby shower gift.

Perfect story for the child about to get a new sibling
This was my son's favorite story the months before I had my second son. A tired, rather pregnant mother doesn't have the energy to play with her son, so he imagines that having playmates like a moose, a chimp, birds or even a crocodile would be great. Lynne Fairbridge does a wonderful job of rhyming and repetition. Even after the 100th reading (I swear I'm not exaggerating), the story still brings a smile to my face. Not to ruin the surprise ending, but when God send a "brand new baby brother", my children shout out the ending. They even ran into the hospital room after the birth of their brother, shouting, "Where's my brand new baby brother?"
